Here I am writing one of the posts which relate to my “Home -sickness” as well as the lessons that I will never forget in my life.
And if you were a hostel kid you too will feel attached to my post.
It will drive you to your nostalgic hostel memories and that unity of hostel friends.
Here it goes –
Everyone was happy that day, it was a bright day. Sunday sounds like a blessing to every students but the reason of me and my colleagues happiness was not that we had a holiday but we were happy because
Every Sunday we got permission to talk at our home for 10 minutes.
Staying away from parents and that too without talking for a week was like a big rule forced on us. By the end of weekend we all used to be exhausted and would eagely wait for Sunday morning.
The wardner came inside and we all greeted her “good morning” and went to hostel mess to finish the breakfast.
Sunday food was also special because at that time we got to listen music at the time of meals.
It was Radio F.M 92.7 bajate raho…playing then.
Tha day the breakfast was vegetable cheese sandwiches.
We all were having the breakfast, enjoying the music
And than all of a sudden something happened.
Kuku, the most little five year old girl of the hostel was slapped by warden ma’am.
We all got scared.
We could not make sense of what was going around.
Tears started flowing from her eyes and she started weeping for her mom.
We all felt bad that why she slapped that little girl but we could do nothing.
All the girls started looking at Kuku.
Ma’am screamed in anger,
“Kuku get back your plate from the bin.”
Kuku was shivering.
She went and picked up the plate she kept in the bin and what we seen was that Kuku leftover few green vegetables from her snadwich.
The thing that happened next was that, Miss aksed Kuku to eat up all the vegetables.
We were shocked. How can she eat the food that she left and thrown in garbage bin ?
But then Ma’am spoke loudly.
FINISH IT AT ONCE…KUKU.
she kept on crying
And while crying ate all leftovers ‘one by one’.
Her face was red of too much crying.
And somewhere we all girls were sad and terrified.
She was the youngest girl in our hostel and she came to India for studying from Hong-Kong.
Our heart cried. She missed her mother.
Ma’am shouted, “All girls, Take it as a warning to never ever waste a piece of food.”
Mind you all.
If anyone did this, than the same will happen with you all.
and Kuku come here
Kuku goes *scared and timid *.
Take this chocolate and don’t do it again my princess ,
You should not waste food there are people like us around who can’t even afford it.
And you knew green vegetables are good for your health.
Do you wanna see that when you meet your mom you meet her with a pale face or you wanna glow like Madhuri Dixit when you do the Classical dance in front of them in the Annual day ?
Kuku gives a little forced smile and says ‘yes’.
‘Yes na ,then from now on you will eat everything and anything you get’ Miss replied.
Ma’am goes away then.
and at the same time a song plays….
” संदेसे आते हैं हमें तड़पाते हैं
जो चिट्ठी आती है वो पूछे जाती है
के घर कब आओगे लिखो कब आओगे
के तुम बिन ये घर सूना सूना है ”
We all girls woke up and huged that little baby girl.
We missed our parents and that trauma made us cry a lot.
We consoled the little girl.
It felt like –
” Hostel friends are more like a family.
When I will go home I miss my this family more than how much I miss my mom dad now.”
Kuku than speaks cutely di
Let’s not weep,
It was my fault.
Now I realised my mistake and I will never waste food .
I could not hold my tears then
And from that day we all learned a lesson to never waste food else
Remember the lesson taught to us by Miss RITA 😛 our angry wardener.
We leave the mess and stand in the long que
Waiting for our turn of making a phone call to our family …..
Singing ..”Sadhese aate he …”
