Beautiful things are always like the Moon – they brighten up everyone’s eyes by their brightness and beauty and as a little girl of 4 year, I was always a fascinated to cherish such things.
During one of the evenings on my trip to uttrakhand, I was sitting on the river side.
The river blew cool winds and mesmerising noise with its whispher.
The scenary was very peaceful, I could see the mirror image of myself in the crystal clear water.
The place was away from the crowd of city, it was forest area where a little part of River passed by, long trees and on them noisy creatures increased their voice along with the dawn.
I sat there simply with my parents.I was a little girl with no worries in life.
My mind was playful.
Mom and dad were conversing related to mythological history of the place.I was least interested in the subject, so I went near the riverside.
I was a fearful child, i never crossed boundaries without parents permission so I sat far away from the danger point.
Then I was deciding on what should I do next ?
Sitting on sand, I ways ended up laying with sand, so that day too I started playing with it,
It was different sand no the one which we find easily in cities and villages area.
There were big particles of stones in it and it was wet from river water.
It shone up brightly when sun rays kissed it’s crust.
I started making river side house, which I learned seeing in my favorute cartoon series.
Mom called me to not play in sand, but I ignored this because it wasn’t like a warning, she just suggested me to not play.
While making my sand house, I needed few water so I took up one of the coconut shell from side and filled it with river water from side, then I made designs adding water to my house walls.
The house wasn’t a beautiful one, but at least something came out which looked beautiful, then what I did was that I collected few tree branches and started fixing them outside the house, they gave a garden look to my house.
It really looked like a dream house to me me, A house with a garden.
At my home in garden, there were round stones added to pots to beautify their presence so I started collecting stones from river side, they were round, soft and beautiful.
Continuous flow of river water, made them so soft that I took them in hands and touched to my cheeks, it felt like ice to cheeks because river water is always cool, it good be good stonepack like ice pack :p….
I decorated stones around it everywhere and while doing this,i found a shell in it.
It was so tempting that I kept it as a collection with me.
I haven’t told mamma about the shell and went back with them by the night.
After 10 years I found the same shell in my childhood toys then I went to mom showed this to her.
I asked her if if this one is an ocean
To which she replied no it was a toy keychain shell not the real one .
Then I asked her about
What is shell ? And where can i get it ?
Mom told me Shell is created by oceans.
Me – How do oceans create shells ?
Mom – Arey, oceans don’t create shells but it is created there.
There are many animals which live deep down the oceans, that are aquatic animals,
Acha Dixu, firstly tell me what are aquatic animals ?
Me – speechless, omg I forgot this I learned this in my science notebook na.
Mom, mom ,mom
Mom – very bad, you should know this na…
Acha, I will tell you a story then you don’t forget this one.
I got excited and started listening to her.
Aquatic animals are those animals which live inside water .
Me – oh yes mummma likes fishes na 🙂
I know this one ..
Mom – yes, there are many animals which leave in oceans and they are all known as aquatic animals.
so when some of these die they leave their bones and other body organs inside the water and after that it becomes lifeless so it starts moving and come to the top of oceans and then at side by waves.
Due to a big journey in ocean they become so soft and glittering that they fascinates our eyes.
I was listening to mom like the most sincere and curious child that time.
I asked mom to tell me more about it, it drew my attention.
Then she tells me that these shells are of great importance they also have religious values.
In Hindu and Budhisim some of these shells are useful as a conch.
It is considered very sacred and is used for worshiping, also these conch shells were used during the beginning of battles during times of Raja Maharaja.
Me – yes, mom this is called ‘शखं’
I learned this one.
Mom – yes, also you have learned of snails na, it is part of their body too.
I added everything to my memory and started learning more about it .
